A greedy man!
The Greedy Moneylender
A long time ago, in the land of Silbaripuram, a guru's ashram was famous. However, a greedy moneylender emerged in that land, gradually becoming a wealthy landlord.
The villagers couldn't withstand his exorbitant interest rates. Many who borrowed money lost everything and left for distant lands.
Eventually, some people approached the guru and presented their complaints. The guru then said, "I don't have the authority to punish him. However, I'm giving him an opportunity that will either bring him immense wealth or lead to his ruin."
The villagers dispersed. The next day, the guru sent for the moneylender and explained the situation to him at the ashram.
Accordingly, the moneylender arrived at the guru's place early in the morning. They journeyed into the forest and finally reached the entrance of a cave. At that moment, the guru said,
"Inside the cave is a treasure trove of gems the world has never seen. But you can only take one. The entrance will be open for only a short while this morning. It will close on its own once the sun rises, then it will open again tomorrow morning."
He agreed and entered the cave. When he saw the glittering gems, he couldn't comprehend the condition the sage had set, because there were countless gems there.
He muttered, "I'll trick the guru. I'll take all of this. It doesn't matter if the cave closes; I can leave when the entrance reopens tomorrow morning."
Quickly, he tied the gems into a bundle using his clothes. After some time, the sun rose, and the entrance closed. The guru walked away with a smile.
He rejoiced, envisioning himself as the richest man in the world. However, after a short while, he began to feel uneasy. Due to the toxic air from bat and owl droppings and decaying animal remains, he started to suffocate from lack of oxygen after a few hours. He immediately pushed the large stone that served as the cave entrance with all his might, but it didn't budge even an inch.
Later, he coughed, struggled for breath, lost consciousness, and fell, hitting his head on the stone! That greedy man's trouble ended there!
Think about this: Power, wealth, status, recognition, and knowledge should all be used for good purposes. Excess, exploitation, and misuse can all lead to destruction!
