How will vigilance save you?
Long time back, when Silbaripuram was just a thick jungle, innit? No tigers or lions and all in that forest. But, loads of elephants were roaming about.
One day, around ten young tuskers were munching away, when an old lady elephant came along and said, "Listen up, children! Don't you all go towards that slope on the hill. Naughty humans have dug big pits and covered them up with dry leaves. If you fall into one of those trap pits, you won't be able to climb back out. Humans will catch you and take you away!"
Listening to this, most of the elephants decided to give that area a miss. But, there was this one mischievous young tusker who goes, "How can those small humans catch strong fellas like us in this jungle? That's all just rubbish talk!"
Just then, his mates tried to stop him, saying, "That elephant mum has seen more of the jungle than all of us put together. So, there must be something in what she's saying."
Then, that young tusker trumpeted loudly, showing off his strength, and went off towards the hill slope. As he was walking near a place where palm leaves were hanging low, he went and fell straight into a trap pit!
He roared with all his might, but his mates were too scared to go near him. One of them said, "If we go to save him, it's dangerous, man! We don't know where all the pits are. There might be other hidden traps near that bunch of palm trees."
Another one agreed, saying, "That's right, yaar. If you're careful, you won't have to be sorry later!"
Soon enough, the humans came, tied up the young tusker with chains, and took him off to a circus tent.
Moral of the story: You gotta live life carefully, okay? This is an old saying story about how "if you're careful, you won't have to be sorry later."
