The Greedy Friend!

Once upon a time, it was the period when King Vikraman ruled over the Kingdom of Silbaripuram. One day, close friends Cheeran and Somu were heading to the market when Somu noticed a cloth bundle lying hidden among the leaves.

He quickly picked it up. While Cheeran stood there trembling with fear, Somu opened it to take a look.

He exclaimed, "Arre, look here da! This is full of gold coins!"

Immediately, Cheeran said, "Havo! Our poverty is finally over with this. Give me exactly half."

However, Somu’s reply was quite different: "I am the one who picked this up. Therefore, these coins belong only to me. I won’t give you even a single one. I’m going home to pack my essential belongings and escaping to Kosalapuram."

Cheeran didn't say another word. He simply walked toward the market, while Somu hurried home. After reaching home, Somu took his bundle and started trekking toward Kosalapuram.

At the same time, the palace guards were searching high and low across the land for the coins. It turns out the lost bundle contained the tax collections from the palace market.

Suspicious of Somu walking in such a frantic rush at night, the guards stopped and searched him. They recovered the bag of coins and promptly threw Somu into the palace dungeon.

When Cheeran heard the news, he said to himself with a sigh of relief, "Somu’s greed turned out to be a blessing for me!"
