The double trick!
Long ago, the kingdom of Silbaripuram was a mix of villages and forests. It was the peak of summer. One day, a wolf, famished and exhausted, crept out of the jungle and into the village.
Spotting a rooster foraging in the backyard, the wolf initially considered pouncing, but quickly realised the rooster would simply fly up into the nearest tree.
The wolf decided to use a different trick. He stood a respectable distance away and politely asked the rooster, "Everyone says you are the one who wakes up the people of this village every morning with your beautiful voice. I am truly longing to hear that sound."
The flattery swelled the rooster with pride. Immediately, the rooster declared, "Well, watch this!"
With that, he closed his eyes and let out a long, drawn-out crow: "Cock-a-doodle-doo..."
The moment the rooster closed his eyes and crowed, the wolf lunged, caught the rooster by the wing, and started walking back towards the forest.
The rooster did not panic or struggle. He acted with extraordinary bravery. He realised that it wasn't the wolf's strength, but his intelligence that had defeated him. Therefore, only his own quick wit could save him now.
The rooster remained calm, not even struggling a bit, until the wolf reached the forest. Just then, a pack of jackals started following the wolf. The wolf didn't like the competition.
Immediately, the rooster spoke up, "Don't give even a piece of me to those jackals when you eat me. They are the traditional enemies of roosters. Tell them I am the rooster you worked so hard to catch back in the village!"
The moment the wolf opened its mouth to shout this point to the jackals, the rooster used all its strength, flew high, and perched safely on a tree.
The wolf looked up in disappointment, and the rooster called down, "I suffered a loss when I carelessly closed my eyes. And you suffered a loss when you carelessly opened your mouth!"
The Moral: A careless life can lead to significant losses. Depending on the situation, the consequences can be small or great!
